This year's tournament had a bumpy start with high winds on the opening day causing the tournament to be pushed back one week. The second week went off without a hitch with everyone excited to play. The weather reared its ugly head again in the second week throwing triple digit temperatures at us the men's club was proactive and gathered all the members into one morning group instead of morning and afternoon. I must admit the day went off without a hitch with everyone reporting sub-4-hour rounds.
The tournament banquet was packed with players and their wives or significant others. Phil LaPierre gave his opening remarks and then turned it over to Carlos Monroy who took over as the MC of the festivities.
First up was a 15-minute comedy act starring William Bates, who had everyone laughing and enjoying the show.
Lunch was catered by the restaurant who served orange chicken rice and veggies combined with some awesome little cakes for dessert. There were also plenty of 50/50 raffle prizes combined with 2 $25 gift certificates provided by the General Manager Jonathan Benrude, to be used in either the restaurant or pro shop.
Wanda Wachal, Betsey Grue, and Denise Rosendale put on a master class in sheer deliciousness.

On Thursday Feb. 26th I was treated to probably one of the best after-round treats in forever, Beer Bratz and Chips at Richard Wachal’s house on the 3rd tee. This seems to be an annual event and “believe you me”, it should continue in perpetuity.
Wanda Wachal, Betsey Grue, and Denise Rosendale, (all closely related to members of the club) put on a master class in hospitality, service, and sheer deliciousness on hole 3. My only regret was it was over too quickly. Thank you, Ladies!!!
At 263 yards from the white, this inviting hole rewards both courage and control. Trees frame the fairway beautifully, but beware of the water waiting on the left at around 175 yards — and the pair of bunkers standing guard in front of the green.

Perfect for golfers looking for a quicker round, it’s equally enjoyable as a warm-up before tackling the Millennium Course or as a casual outing with friends. With its approachable layout, the Centennial offers a relaxed pace of play while still incorporating the beauty and challenge of the surrounding desert landscape. It’s well-suited for beginners, seasoned players seeking practice, or anyone who appreciates a shorter but rewarding golf experience.
